I think having a sand dune elopement is incredibly underrated. While I see them done occasionally, I don’t see them nearly as often as those on cliffsides, up in the mountains, or those done around canyons – and I think that is SUCH a shame because they are incredibly magical.
So… in hopes of convincing you to maybe do one someday. Here are the reasons I think – as a photographer – that they are the absolute best.
• Sand dunes serve as the most aesthetic ‘neutral’. Because there won’t be competing colours in the backgrounds and the dunes contain really soft and natural lines, you as a couple will visually pop. It really flatters the couple in the best way while also framing you as the centre of attention. I think this would be especially cool if you had a colourful dress or accessories.
• They are super unique and almost other-worldly. Part of the beauty in choosing a location that is underrated is just that, they’re underrated. And your friends won’t have seen anything like them before. On this note… I also think a sand dune elopement (with that other-worldliness) is begging for a fandom/scifi inspired elopement. I’m thinking Star Wars maybe? It could be epic.
• You don’t have to worry about your dress getting covered in dirt. If you are wanting to wear your dress again for a second event / day – this makes a sand dune elopement a great option to help keep it clean! It also opens up a whole range of posing options (like sitting and snuggling poses) without risking your dress getting dirty.
• Similarly, you don’t have to worry about your dress getting caught on shrubbery like you would in a field location. I have seen so many dress trains having to constantly be untangled in mountain and tree locations.
• They are perfect for setting up picnics on, or to have crazy adventures on. Want to have an activity during your day? Consider sledding down a sand hill with your boo (those pictures would be epic no?) or snuggling up for a sunset picnic.
I’m not saying you have to have one… but they are pretty freaking great. Just look at these pictures!
